The Story: Kelley went for an ultrasound thursday at 1:30. I got the call around 2 pm that there was an issue with the amniotic fluid. Either it was leaking or the baby wasn't urinating enough to maintain a consistent level. This meant that every thing and everybody was fine for now, but it could cause umbilical cord problems if the fluid levels got too low. So, they wanted to go ahead and deliver. I was packing the truck for a cabling job when she called and told me to pack a bag and come to the hostpital. None of the clothes that I packed in the bag match or would ever naturally be worn together. Kelley has been on blood thinner medication for the entire pregnancy. Two shots a day since october, and we just switched up her medication on monday. The new stuff (heparin) was a fairly high dose, and we had to run several blood tests to determine how much of the drug was still in her system. Ella has been breach (head up) for the entire pregnancy, so we knew we were going to have to perform a cesarian. But the doctors could not put in the spinal anesthetic with the heparin still in her system. We were scheduled to have the cesarian thursday night, but her blood was too thin. We spent the night at the hospital hooked up to a monitor and IV. How miserable! But by thursday morning the bloodwork was perfactly normal, and the baby was still looking fine on the monitors. So they took us into the operating room, and as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words: |

Thank You Getting Ella here has taken over five years, several surgeries, and over $40,000 in advanced reproductive medical procedures. This has been such a long, expensive and emotional struggle for us, we would not have made it through without our friends and family. So I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who has prayed for us, thought about us, given us money, or help, or advice. Those prayers have all been answered now. Ella is perfect, she's wonderful, and she's given our lives a new light. She's a miracle that would not be here without you. Thank you. Now it's our turn to give back. This baby means that we owe a lot of favors. I would love to have anybody that we owe a thank you to over to the house to collect in person. I want to get a picture of you holding Ella. It might even end up in the gallery above. I know that one day she is going to ask me where babies come from. I'm going to tell that first you go see a doctor and pay him about sixteen grand. Then I am going to explain to her what we have been doing for the last five years. And I want to be able to show her pictures of everybody who wanted her to be born holding her. |
